After Jesus rose from the dead, he made a few appearances. One of the most famous was a roadside conversation with Cleopas and friend as they journeyed to Emmaus. At first, they did not recognize Jesus, recounting to him his own tragic death. Crucifixion and resurrection, of course, were part of God's grand plan, spelled out in Scripture. Jesus makes this known, then himself, before he leaves his traveling companions. Both the resurrection and Scriptures serve as a vital link to God yet today.

Unlike the other religious leaders of his day, Jesus excelled at showing mercy. He looked through their sickness and sin to their needy hearts. So he invited the sick and sinner to follow him. Many did. Zacchaues stands out among them. This sinner, tax collector, and conspicuously short man first responded to Jesus' merciful gaze with a few little steps. Perhaps, God intends us to reflect the mercy of His Son.

Passage: Luke 8:1-3
Duration: 41 mins 49 secs
Jesus invited followers to accompany him as he spread word of God's kingdom. They learned from him, helped him, and eventually carried forth his message. These followers did not always fit the societal mold, but what made them exceptional was their commitment to Jesus. A band of female followers sets the tone for this series of unlikely followers. They reflect Jesus's generosity.
